SUMMARY OF ROLE


The Community Based Health & First Aid programme has been operating since 2009 in Irish prisons under a partnership between the Irish Red Cross (IRC), Irish Prison Service (IPS) and Education Training Boards (ETB’s). Each year, groups of volunteer inmates are recruited in each prison and attend a weekly CBH training session with the full duration of the course taking place over 6-9 months. During their training, volunteer inmates develop skills to promote the health and safety of their prison community through peer-to-peer education. The role of the Lead facilitator is to lead in the facilitation of the CBHFA related workshops nationally in the community and assist in the support and training of new CBHFA facilitators leaving prison and in the community.


ROLE RESPONSIBLILTIES

  • To facilitate Culture of Non-Violence and Peace & Overdose Prevention workshops to clients of the Probation Services and Probation Funded Projects (online and in person when offline workshops can take place)  

  • Assist in the designing of the CNV Facilitator Training for IRC volunteers in prison and in the community  

  • Assist the CBH Team with ongoing training of volunteer facilitators a part of the Prison to Community Project in prison (where possible) and in the community

  • Be a role model to volunteers and facilitators leaving prison and encourage positive, meaningful re-engagement with the community

  • Assist in the mentoring of newly trained volunteers in the community and support their integration into the community

  • Assist with creating new components of the workshop to expand the portfolio of work being offered at the Probation service by utilising other components of CBH in the community.

  • To model the 7 fundamental principles and represent the Irish Red cross in all aspects of work.

  • To attend monthly meetings with Prison to Community Coordinator to manage workload and manage workload (online and in person when these can take place).

  • Provide regular feedback and monthly progress reports to the CBH Prison to Community coordinator.

  • To provide support to the CBH Team where needed in line with skills and abilities.

  • Contribute to annual work plans, reports and evaluations related to the role and work within the community.

  • Assist in developing new marketing materials which can be used to promote CBH in the community.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Essential Criteria

  • English Speaking (Fluency)

  • Excellent Group Facilitation skills

  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.

  • A high level of organisational ability, administrative and IT skills

  • Be flexible and adaptable to working in an environment of continuous change

  • Be responsible, organised, reliable and able to work with a hyprid working policy

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate a drive and capacity to support marginalized communities

  • Be passionate about supporting individuals with lived experience of the Criminal Justice System 

Desirable Criteria

  • Graduated from the CBHFA programme with the Irish Red Cross

  • Knowledge of CBHFA in Justice programmes both in prison and in the community.
